First of its kind in Latin America, this experimental project
located in Canóvanas, Puerto Rico, was financed by the U.S.
Energy Office. It consisted of the installation of 7,150
sq. ft. of evacuated tube solar collectors providing 60 tons of
air conditioning for an 11,000 sq. ft. industrial plant. Insulated
chilled water storage tanks provides for water needs for night
and cloudy day operation. Sophisticated controls and instrumentation
systems provided for performance monitoring and energy saving evaluation. It
was built in 1979 as a test pilot facility for the Puerto Rico
Industrial Development Company.
