Moving
Up in Leaps: Top 10's fastest-growing companies
By Giselle Torres
An ancient Chinese proverb says, "Do not
be afraid of going slow; be afraid of standing still."
But looking at the growth experienced by some companies on this
year's CARIBBEAN BUSINESS Top 300 Locally Owned Companies list,
perhaps going fast–– as oppased to going slowly –– is
the ticket to success.
BUILDING DREAMS AND TRUST
Aireko Construction Corp., one of this year's top 10 companies
by percentage of growth, has learned to rely on innovation to succeed.
"We're innovators," said Grisel Rodriguez, project development
manager. "We've done a lot of first-of-its-kind projects."
One of these is the panoramic elevator in Bayamon's science park.
Aireko also built Latin America's first solar-cooled building in
Canovanas. Another first is a battery storage building in Carolina
for electrical energy storage and voltage regulation; the first
of its kind in Latin America and third of its kind in the world.
Aireko has received numerous wards for its work, including the
Excellence in Concrete Construction Award from the local Premix
Concrete Producers Association for building the Ponce Hilton Hotel.
Also, the company has just started a pre-construction service,
enabling it to become involved in initial project planing and design
stages.
"We work with architects to help clients meet budget and schedule
specifications," Rodriguez said. The company advises clients
on design, materials and how to finish the projects quickly. "And
when they save time, they save money," she added. "About
80% of our clients are repeat customers."
